I stayed here for two weeks in March of 2007 and I must say if I return I know exactly were to stay the empress hotel and staff was the best and I highly recommend this hotel.

Good location in district 1 and not far from Chinatown. Friendly staff with good English language skills. Breakfast is above Vietnam standards. Excursions can be booked through the reception. Air condition in my room was very noisy.

Brittingham 
We found the decor was very pleasant with the wood paneled walls with the sliding louver window covers. The double pane windows nicely kept the street noise to a low level. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was pretty good - a bit out of the main tourist area but a pleasant walk to the markets restaurants etc.
We would recommend it.
