It is at the best location. Also the staffs are very friendly. I would like to return again in the near future.

I stayed there four nights in December 2004.
I had ants crowling out of electric outlets. Had to discard all my fruit. Saw live lizard in the room. Some parts are completely dark. I felt I was closely watched in the Garden Terrace having my dinner. Nice location. Dated, needs lot of refurbishing.

We were at the Rex Hotel over the New year festivities. The staff were very friendly especially to the kids (which is true of all of Vietnam). We were very fortunate in that an extra space was found for us at the hotel''s New Year Party (singers, dancers, fashion show, juggling, magic + buffet) which really was a fun family occasion. HCMC was quite spectacular for its New Year lights and sheer quantity of people out on their mo-peds viewing. I can definitely say the hotel staff did at times go out of there way to provide vey high service levels towards us. At some restaurants and shops we did encounter some problems with orders being mixed up, language is still quite a barrier so some allowance by the traveller needs to made in this respect...ie check and double check those orders!

We booked the ''Super Suite''. As a first time guest, I had no idea what the ''Super-suite'' was. At check-in I was assigned a room that later after my complaint about the street noise, I was then offered the room we had paid for, the ''Super-Suite''. So the front desk or management was trying to pull a ''fast-one'' because of my lack of knowledge and simply that I trusted that I'd be given the room I paid for. To be fair to the hotel, one phone call by me and one complaint about the street noise, immediately brought me to the room I had paid for. The ''Super-Suite is double the size of the regular suite. Two bedrooms, a much larger living room sitting area, a dining/kitchen area, and interior design of Asian/ chinese/colonial motif that was quite pleasant. The regular suite had barely any of these aesthetics. We enjoyed the hotel so much, that we booked the same room for our return to HCMC and I told the reservation office I was paying $110. Which the card I was given upon check in is what was written. I later learned I was actually paying $130. However, $110 seemed to be ok and was the rate I was given for the return stay.

The hotel is charming, staff friendly, location is fine. Hotel was clean, service was good, my traveling companion who used the internet a few times a day found the availability and connection excellent. All the great shops are 1 long block away towards the Sheraton. I was completely satisfied and would recommend the hotel. I never cease to be amazed of the VN peoples ability to remember details or notice and remember. Upon our return 2 weeks later, we were greeted by the doorman with a ''Welcome back to the Rex Hotel''. I do not remember any special interactions at the front door or with the doorman and cannot imagine how they would recognize us? We pulled up in a car that was not associated with the hotel. The front desk and lobby personal seemed to share the same renewed warmth for a return visitor.
