| SPT 09: FANSIPAN DISCOVERY TOUR

 Mt. Fansipan at 3143m, and on the border with China, is Vietnam's highest mountain. It is only 9km from Sapa town but it takes at least three days to get to the peak and back. Sapa, at an elevation of 1600m, has been described as "Not easily reached... Sees few tourists... Unbelievable mountain scenery... Still retains many French cultural and architectural influences... Has been under the control of at least four countries over the centuries... Unlike other Vietnamese hill towns, different ethnicities cohabitate peacefully here." The region around Sapa is indeed home to various colorful ethnic minorities, wearing traditional attire. The climb is rough, wet and cold, but the views are rewarding. The top is accessible year-round to anyone who is in good shape. As there are no mountain huts on the way, we will be camping. No ropes or technical climbing skills are needed, just endurance and plenty of energy. The equipment and food will be carried by our porters. Trekking time is 5 - 8 hours per day.
ITINERARY
 Night 1: Hanoi - Lao Cai
by Train.
You will be picked up from your hotel lobby by our representative at 20:00 for a short transfer to Hanoi Railway Station for boarding to Lao Cai by Express Train at 21:10.
Overnight in the A/C soft sleeper wooden cabin (4 people/cabin or 2 people/cabin on request).
Day 1: Lao Cai - Sapa ( 1600m ) - Camp 1 ( 2200m ) (B, L, D)
Sapa | Silver Waterfall | Tram Ton Pass
6:00 AM - Arrive to Lao Cai train station. Welcome by your local guide and driver. Take a drive of 40km for over an hour drive uphill the Hoang Lien Son mountains to Sapa. Great views of valleys and terraced rice fields! After freshen up and Breakfast in a local restaurant start the trip to conquer the roof of Vietnam and Indochina - Fansipan peak.
At about 9h30 AM, take a private transfer of 18 km via Silver Waterfall to the highest pass in Vietnam - Tram Ton Pass located at 2100m above the sea level. Visit Silver Waterfall before reaching the pass. Spend your time enjoying marvelous nature and then start the strenuous trek to the peak. After roughly 6 hours through the primitive rain jungles, many small streams and bamboo forests… we reach to the top of a mountain at 2,900m where our camp will be set for staying overnight. Make tents, prepare for dinner and spend the first night in the mountain.

Day 2: Camp 1 to the Summet of Fansipan ( 3143m ) (B, L, D)
Breakfast at the camp and then continue climbing to the summit by way of pine and yellow bamboo forests. After 4 hours, you will successfully conquer the roof of Vietnam and Indochina - Fansipan peak. Congratulation!
Staying here to enjoy your success as well as great view of a ever green scenery stretching under your feet. Spend 1/2 or 1 hour enjoying the splendid landscapes from around the mountain, at this virginal roof of Vietnam and Indochina is a specious chance for you to enjoy watching the surroundings: to the North-West is small village areas belonging to Lai Chau province, the splendid rolling mountains; to the North East is the overall picture of Sapa town which is only seen from here.
The way back, of course less hard but still dangerous. Arriving back to the 2,900m camp at noon, we have long break for Lunch and recovery. Most of the trail in the afternoon takes you downhill but very dangerous because many part of the trail is just a narrow track on the steep side of the mountains. Late afternoon, we station at a nice sport on the top of a 2,700m mount, put up our camp, cook our Dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: Camp 1 (2200m) to Sapa - (B, L, D)
After the last breakfast in the mountain, take another way to go down to the foot of Mount where to visit and get understandings of the lifestyles, the traditional customs of the people in a village of the Black H'mong called Sin Chai, then take
transfer back to Sapa (18 km). Check in hotel. Lunch on the way and Dinner
at restaurant.

4: Sapa - Lao Cai - Hanoi (B, -, -)
Breakfast at Hotel. Free
at leisure to visit ethnic markets and explore Sapa town.
Check out Hotel before 12:00 PM. Lunch and Dinner on guest account.
In the afternoon transfer to Lao Cai railway station to catch the overnight train back to Hanoi.

Arrive in Hanoi around 5:00 AM next day. Tour ends.

Equipment that you should bring:
The only thing you should bring yourself is a pair of good walking-boots, or another kind of solid foot-wear. You should have tried them out beforehand, and know that you can walk in them all through the day!
Recommended equipment: 2 pairs of thick socks ( for use in the walking-boots), Sandals or light footwear (for use in the evening), Sun-cream (with a high factor, 10-20), Mosquito repellent, Hat or cap (with a shade), Bathing suit, Medicine for your own use (fever, bad stomach etc.), 1 warm jacket (fleece-jacket etc.,- for the evenings), 1 sweat-shirt, 1-2 pair of long trousers (loose,- for your comfort), 1 pair of short trousers (for warm days), 2 –3 shirts, or T-shirts Socks (for use in the evenings, and against mosquitoes), Underwear (for the women : also a Bra!), Towel Toilet requisites.
Note: The personal baggage you bring on the trek, should not exceed approx. 10-12 kg, and should preferably be packed in ordinary plastic-bags that fit easily into the soft, barrel-shaped, watertight Blue bag. This bag will only contain your baggage and your sleeping-bag. All your personal baggage in the Blue bag will be carried by the porters. You shall only carry a small rucksack with the things you need during the day (camera, water-bottle etc.).
Equipment we supply: Sleeping bag, Sheet sleeping bag (silk), Sleeping mats, Rucksack, Waterproof Blue bag (for your baggage), Plastic rain coat, Torch / flashlight, Water-bottle, Water-filters (to purify drinking-water), Cooking-gear, Plates, cups, forks, knives, spoons, and chop-sticks, Tents (incl. Mosquito-net), First-aid kit.
