Good: "After a 3 hour drive from Hanoi my husband and I boarded the Valintine boat, staff were very friendly and the accomodation was excellent, from here on in it was all down hill, The food (lunch) day one was very good but the rest of meal terribly quality. The chef put a huge amount of time into scupturing the salad vegetables, but the actual food to be eaten was not good. The meat was like leather and floating in oil anf on the tables was their idea of cheese.....kraft singles in their plastic wrap and "laughing cow" chees triangles, no bread or crackers. Breakfast was a cooked selection of eggs & stale rolls, bread slices baked in a on the counter little oven. Halon Bay water was a discrace, full of rubbish and sewerage. Also apparently Jan to end of March it is always covered in low dense cloud, hence we could'nt see a thing. During a visit to the oyster growing area, the manager/guide offer a taste of fresh oyster, but whilst walking around below us floated a soiled baby's nappie.....lovely"

Bad: " Also no commentary on off the boat tour made it difficult to know any information of interest apart from what you could see. Then t top it all off, I got a severe case of diareer on the last day and had t copr with another 3 hour drive back to Hanoi and $1000 worse off being the cost of this Hanlon Bay experience. So our recommendations would be, first for the Bay Tourist Association to spend some of the many thousands of dollars they receive from tourists to clean up the water, dredge it daily, they say it's the villages but who cares.........just clean it up. Also to let travellers know not to travel there Jan to April it's always heaverly clouded, you can't see a thing.. And don't eat the fish which have been feeding on poop from the fishing village."
